But we will not advertise a property until it has been GAS SAFE gas safety certified, and inspected for electrical and furniture fire safety.

I have found all staff of Tenant Direct to be exceptionally professional. We've been their tenants for last one year and they have always been helpful with snags at property. I particularly like their portal where you can record any concerns/ snags and they will promptly respond to advise and address the issue.

Overall a good estate agent. Very good value and was able to accommodate my short-term let requirements easily. My check in and check out was done very promptly, with great communication. Had some teething issues with maintenance requests when I moved into the property that took many weeks and a lot of chasing to resolve! However, communication was always clear and responsive when I chased, so the delay seemed to be an internal issue.

After living in one of Tenant Directs properties for 2 and a half years I can happily say I'm now dealing with another letting agent and would never go back. We put up with it for so long because the price of the flat was very competitive, but everything was a lot of effort and we seemed to be doing more work than they were. Maintenance requests took weeks or even months to be acknowledged, when they were 'fixed' the same problem would often occur soon afterwards, we would have been overcharged for water bills twice had we not picked them up on it, general communication was awful (unless they were reminding us to pay rent).
This was all brought to a head when we were moving out. We were not told anything about the leaving procedure including leaving keys, time of departure, and then ultimately it took 5 weeks for us to get our security deposit and again they tried to overcharge us for the remaining water bill- I can only assume they were trying to overcharge us because it took me all of 30 seconds of simple calculations to correct them.
All in all, if you want a cheap flat and to just be left all on your own to live there as the condition slowly deteriorates around you, Tenant Direct are exactly the company for you!

We lived in Carlton House for 2 and a half years (a property managed by Tenant Direct) and had very substandard customer service, constantly having to chase regarding maintenance requests and receiving limited (and poorly written) communication in general. I now rent through another letting agency in Southampton and am pleased to say the difference is stark between the two, with communication delivered in a friendly manner, promptly, and with perfect clarity.
To say it is a relief that a property management company feels comfortable doing their job "managing a property" is an understatement. Hopefully Tenant Direct have improved since we finished renting with them (June 2020) but judging on their response to (presumably just) critique and constructive feedback on these review pages it's safe to say the jury is still out.
It would be great to see acknowledgement of previous bad experiences of customers and a desire to make things better, rather than outrage, outright denial and deleting review pages.

Don't let the generic five star reviews (from accounts with a suspiciously low number of reviews) fool you - Tenant Direct are nothing short of an absolute nightmare to deal with. By far the worst letting agent I have ever used. I lived at one of their properties for two and a half years and from start to finish everything was an arduous task. Expect to constantly have to chase the office for any admin work to get sorted, for maintenance requests to take forever to be completed (if at all), and generally to receive terrible customer service across the board from agents who couldn't care less about any issues that may occur with your tenancy. You might be tempted by the low prices for their properties, but it is 100% worth paying a bit more to avoid the stress of dealing with this terrible company.

We were happy on our Flat, everything was ok. And everybody from Agency, were nice, ready to help you when you need. They were very understanding when we have to move, because jobs. We left and even they refund our deposit very fast. Thank you for everything, Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, God Year, better then the one is almost gone! Oana&George.

My son rented through Tenant Direct last year however he has now moved up to a London university otherwise he would have continued renting his accommodation. Any issues throughout the tenancy reported were always responded to within a timely manner and the deposit was returned shortly after returning the keys. Would definitely recommend to anybody we know in Southampton

Where do I begin? Oh yeah, unfriendly staff, not helpful at all, when you call to ask about your property, they always give the same answer, 'the person in charge is not available'. I've been calling everyday for a week to ask about my deposit, but I got the same answer every time. After I threatened to take legal action, they managed to settle my problem within a few hours without having to "talk to the person in-charge".
They are really pushy when they are asking for money from you but worst than a sloth when they are the one to return the money to you. I don't understand why my landlord still choose to use them, since they are NOT helpful at all! I would never recommend anyone to use this agency. There are plenty of good letting agencies to choose from, but definitely NOT, NEVER Tenant Direct. You have been warned.

Where to start? House wasn't cleaned in the slightest before moving in (despite money taken from our deposit for 'cleaning' when we moved out) - previous tenant's rubbish was left under beds and in drawers, fridge smelt, oven was covered in a layer of filth etc. Maintenance issues barely ever get dealt with, they iften say they'll be over and never show up and they didn't even give us all the right keys when we moved in, after making us wait in their office while they went to pick up the keys as they didn't yet have them. Basically, they're very friendly and helpful on the phone then nothing gets done.
They even changed our locks without telling us right before Christmas, meaning they were shut for a long period of time and we were unable to come in to collect the new keys. Prices of fees went up each time they were mentioned and you're often required to pay hefty sums at short notice. They also say work will be done before moving in, such as the garden being sorted, but it is exactly the same when you move in. If any students are thinking of going with them just please, don't.

Just wanted to say a big Thank you so much for everything your company has done over the past year, having previously had trouble with a housing company coming to you was just what we needed! Hassle-free, friendly and reliable landlords. If we ever had a problem or a question about anything it was solved so quickly, it was amazing. The location was so handy.
The rooms and house itself were nicely decorated and so roomy for a student house. Thanks very much for making our 3rd year at uni so good, I wish we had found you sooner and I'd recommend you to any student living in Southampton.

Quite surprised about the reviews on this page. Me and my five other housemates (all students) felt it was a smooth, easy and informative process and we are extremely happy with our house. They were keen to help as much as possible and contact the Landlord to pass information on. Overall very pleased with the service we have had.

I have nothing good to say about this agency. They are unprofessional, never reply to emails and their maintenance team is awful. They are more than happy to con you into signing a contract by lying about maintaining the house and conducting a professional cleaning service prior to new tenants moving in. Instead we moved into a house with unsealed windows, dodgy electrics, and layer of grime 1 inch thick. Be very careful before becoming involved with this agency.
