Critical: Professionalism, Quality, Responsiveness, Value Beware. This company may have been dissolved in April 2020 according to Companies House, if so it still took money for a policy in May 2020. Phones are dead and cannot get through on email so something is not right. Hope I am wrong but am contacting the Insurance Ombudsman and the police Fraud helpline to check things out.

Had a policy with them for 5 years, every year renewal documents come through wrong and I have to phone to update details. This time I updated details to the correct information and they said they would call back to take payment. 2 days later I phoned again to make payment to be told the would phone back. 3rd time I asked to make a complaint as no call backs only to be told the complaints team will call back within 3 days.guess what, still no call back. Time to look for a new insurer

Really bad communication and customer service. The insurers are not interested in inspecting the insured property. This company is not helpful. The owners were very aggressive about a damaged roof and harassed me for insurance monies when they knew the insurers were involved in illegal activities. This company is very aggressive in pursuing it's own interests.

You will be heavily discounted by Discount Landlord, so choose wisely - Part 2. Following my Trust Pilot review on Discount Insurance, a trading name of Home and Travel Ltd, and their very quick response on Trust Pilot accepting my complaint and committing to investigate and resolve (a publicity stunt), I have heard nothing at all. I had become very disappointed and suspicious regarding the authenticity of the company. (Discount Insurance Company is a trading name of Home and Travel Ltd, co no. 07270270, Financial Conduct Authority No 533383, Information Commissioners Office No Z2772506 ) Their quick response on the Trust Pilot website was a publicity stunt, pure and simple, giving the impression they care and are responsive, which they are not.
Today is the 15th day and I am still waiting! No information available on website as to who is accountable, no named individuals at all. The underwriter concerned is LEGAL and GENERAL. I have escalated the claim today and have copied in Financial Conduct Authority, Information Commissioners Office, Prudential Regulation Authority into the communication.
I have also copied in Dean Dunham, Consumer Lawyer on LBC to highlight my experience to others and give appropriate advice to others to safeguard themselves from potentially rogue insurance companies. My claim for landlord building insurance was submitted on 16 February 2020, well before the Covid-19 restrictions, but the constant delaying tactics is now costing me rental income as tenants will not pay for an accommodation that is unfit following the storm Ciara and Dennis back in early February 2020.
The tenants also have vulnerable children including those who are disabled. While companies are going out of their way to help, not so Discount Landlord Insurance and their underwriter, Legal and General (stay clear of them too, and check insurance policy for who the underwriters are, some are better than others). Stay safe, especially from dishonourable and slippery insurance companies.
As I said the proof is in the claim process. They will not be there for you, contrary to the blurb on their website, when you need them most. Choose wisely please. Update on 15 April 2020:. Financial Conduct Authority have responded today as follows after escalation of complaint to them and others following no response or acknowledgement for 15 days after complaint was received by Discount Landlord (a trading name of Home and Travel Limited): " Home and Travel Limited I've searched the Financial Services Register, which is a public record of firms we authorise and regulate.
I've been able to find an entry for Home and Travel Limited who are authorised by the FCA. As the firm is authorised by the FCA, we would expect them to adhere to our rules and guidelines in our handbook. We would expect for the firm to follow the High Level Principles outlined in the FCA Handbook which includes PRIN 2 which relates to skill, care and diligence. PRIN 6, treating customers fairly, and PRIN 7, firms must communicate information to consumers in a way which is clear, fair and not misleading.
What we've done with the concerns you've shared We have supervisory teams that are responsible for monitoring regulated firms to ensure they follow the correct rules and procedures and when concerns are shared with us regarding the conduct of a firm, the information is recorded against them. The supervisory teams can then use this information to understand how the firm is treating their customers and how they're behaving in the marketplace which can then be used to help form guidance that can be issued to the firm or, if necessary, disciplinary action being taken against them."

I'm a bit bemused by all the bad reviews. I have had a number of policies with them for years so have spoken to them numerous times and they have never been anything but polite, courteous and efficient. I have to caveat this with the fact I have never had to make a claim so can't comment on that aspect of their service.

Been a landlord for 10 years with two properties and never claimed. Discount have usually been the cheapest. This year the renewal price was a bit high so I insured with another provider. Since then they keep calling. Despite being told I have no need of their service, and to take me off there calling list, they keep calling. Very annoying!

Called me today, to re-new a policy I cancelled with them last year, told me I had not cancelled it in writing, made conotations that I was somehow going to be penalized as I had cancelled verbally which they claim to have clearly stated to me at the time was essential. I told them if it was told to me of it being essential I would have done it as thus.
They then claimed to have found an e-mail from me cancelling it. They stressed me to breaking point with their aggitational manner, causing me to lose my temper as the percieved threat was that I was going to be re-charged for insurance I did not require. Said they would send an e-mail confirming what was spoken about today. I just got home "no e-mail" leave this lot alone.
As the previous review states "quesationable" I was in good spirit before they called me today & wasted two valuable hours of my time defending myself against something I HAD DONE CORRECTLY.

Be very much aware of this company, the premium may seem reasonable and it is relatively easy to get cover. In the event of a claim being made they immediately back track and refuse to offer any cover or refuse to discuss the claim or accept any responsibility. I would have been better covered without this company and kept the premium. BEWARE of THIS COMPANY!

Don't be distracted by the "low" price quoted, and be aware of high excess and some special clauses which are impossible to fulfil. When asked about the latter, they did not know how those clauses appeared but were unwilling to change, and tried to interpret in their own way, very unprofessional! It seems anyone can be a broker and wins customers by offering seemingly low price. Service is important when a claim is to be made.

Maybe if I had read the bad reviews first I may not have used them. I now have two properties insured with them but have never claimed. I have just been dealing with Sunny, an extremely courteous, pleasant and helpful young man so I can't work out why everyone says the staff are rude. I have only bothered because they deserve a good review.

Don't use this company. I took out insurance last year with them and then had an email this year asking me if I wanted to renew to call them. I had made other arrangements and ignored the request as they had said call them if I wanted to renew. What I didn't know hidden in the small print is if you don't call them and cancel you will still be charged for the following year! I have now had a bill from them for 139.88 which I think is disgraceful AVOID!

I had two policies with this insurance. Made a slight error in giving the wrong policy number but did state that I have just taken out this insurance and would like a full refund as it within the 14 days and i gave the correct address. Cancelled the wrong policy which was taken out 6 months ago and said they could not reinstate, would have to take out a new policy.
Then took 60 pounds of the policy that I did want to cancel and said its gone above the 14 days and the mistake was all mine. Very unhelpful and unconsiderate and any company that can't even give back 60 pounds for a genuine mistake is going to try their level best of not trying to give any money if they can when you make a calim. I plan to stay well clear of these guys!
