Lost for words at what Bridgfords (and by extension Countrywide Estates) have done to my family. When my Grandmother passed away from cancer we were instructed in her will to sell her house. The house my mother and aunt grew up in, and the house I spent the majority of my childhood in. The market was poor and so we asked Bridgfords to put it up to rent in addition to keeping it on the market for sale.

The tenant, who from what the police and solicitors have now found out, was I can only assume not properly checked by Bridgfords. After several incidents with the tenant which clearly broke his Bridgfords tenant agreement we asked that he be removed from the property once his contract was up.

2 weeks before this contract ended I received a call from a neighbour claiming the tenant had robbed the property.

What gave this away was the fact that he was loading the wooden fence panels from the back garden into a truck parked outside. My father and I went down and took photos of the property which I can't show here. He had taken, amongst other things, curtains, washing machine, beds and of course the back fence panels. The contract he had with Bridgfords was a fully furnished rented property, and the contract clearly states in point 2.10 "to keep the interior of the property and all Fixtures and Fittings in the same state of repair".

Now I have sat down with my solicitor and read through this contract thoroughly and we have found the following points directly violated:

2.8, 2.10, 2.14, 2.15, 2.16, 2.22, 2.27, 2.29, 2.30, 2.41. This event happened on 25th July 2014 and to this day (it is now Jan 4th 2015) we have had no compensation, deposit refund, or apology from Bridgfords.

The tenant agreed to a J600 deposit in the event of any incident arising, as we all do. Bridgfords however are claiming they do not have the deposit to return to us. How can this be? If you don't have it then who does? And why (as our Estate Agents it is directly your responsibility) to sort this matter out. We are continuing to battle with Bridgfords, not only to seek out righful deposit refund from the tenant, but also to sort this matter out once and for all.

My advice would be not only to avoid this company for any dealings with your property, whether buying, selling or renting, but also that the property ombudsman remove their right to trade as a company.
