New York Habitat was established in 1989 under the auspices of Founder and President Marie-Reine Jezequel. Its French subsidiary company was opened with an office in Paris in 1996 and further developed with the South of France in 2001 and a new subsidiary company in London, U.K., in 2002. The idea for the company came after recognizing the lack of options available to travelers who desired more personal accommodations than those provided in hotels. This is how New York Habitat designed a way to give travelers the feeling of what it is like to live independently in New York, Paris, the South of France or London, by arranging stays in quality furnished apartments.
This is the ideal option for visitors who need a place to stay in New York from a period of a few days to a few weeks. Whether the purpose is business or leisure, this is a pleasant alternative to a hotel room. New York Habitat has many vacation rental apartments of all sizes throughout the city catering for these short-term visits, at prices that are very competitive with comparable hotel accommodations. I rented two apartments from the New York Habitat: the first one was basic (and disappointing for the price), but in a great location, the other one - fantastic (however the location was suboptimal). I can recommend this company for short term rentals, keeping in mind that you need to decide for yourself about the final choice of accommodation - the pictures are quite accurate. The customer service received from the agent Nicholas was 5*, he was really responsive and helpful.

Agent disappeared for 10 days just to tell me the apartment I was interested in was taken. I understand apartments get taken, that's fine. The clear lack of urgency to get anything done while completely ignoring my other backup option and criteria which I clearly stated was absolutely incredible though. Blaming the pure lack of communication and customer service on covid was the lamest thing I've ever heard.

It took 10 days for a response to the my email with the criteria, but when I finally conveyed my disappointment, it only took 30 minutes to get a response. I tried to get another agent, but I got 0 response. I'd recommend just about anyone else I've had a yelp account for years, and haven't written a review ever despite all sorts of good and bad experiences, but this one I had to actually write about. I'd give negative stars if I could.

Working with Christoph Pourquier from New York Habitat was first rate! He was able to provide two very nice housing options in the NY neighborhood I wanted to live, both within my budget range, and then successfully negotiated with the owner to reduce the rent, all that within a week! It was a great experience, and I highly recommend NY Habitat.

The process was made incredibly simple and efficient by my agent Christophe Pourquier. My internship starts in less than a month and housing was becoming nearly impossible to find. Christophe helped me lock down an affordable and comfortable place in a matter of days! I will 100% use Christophe for future bookings.

I will forever be grateful for the level of professionalism and patience that Christophe showed me in my time of need. My daughter was entering college for the first time. Her dorm situation changed, and I needed to find her off-campus housing within the next few months during the pandemic while living in another state. I needed a company and person I could trust to get the job done.

New York Habitat was the company, and Christophe was that person. He went above and beyond, answering all my questions and helping me secure a safe and clean location for my daughter to live for the next nine months in NYC. I highly recommend him.

Finding the right person to assist with any given task presents a challenge. It is especially true when attempting to find the right broker. This seemed like an impossibility until we met Christophe Pourquier, Associate Broker at New York Habitat. Christophe has a clear understanding of the type of market that I want to reach. He is wonderfully communicative and has a great attention to detail, an important quality required of a broker.

I am always secure in the knowledge that before he contacts me with a potential client, he has already done the leg work to ensure that they could be the right fit. From my many years of working with Christophe, I have no doubt that he respects the property owner as well as his clients and is sensitive not to waste anyone's time. I cannot recommend his services enough to anyone looking for an excellent broker.

I had an amazing experience with NY Habitat. I was looking for the right apartment for a couple of weeks, and when I found NY Habitat I was provided with exactly what I was looking for. My experience with this company was great from start to finish. The chat on the website was so helpful and the person - Anna - who helped me initially was so efficient and helped me with everything I needed.

I then got connected to Christophe Porquier who helped me through every step with absolutely amazing service, to find the best apartment for me. He found a place for me and my roommate that I hadn't seen, and wouldn't have found without him. I cannot recommend him and this company enough, I am so happy with the service I've received!

After being mislead by this company via Craigslist, I am continued to be harassed by Beatrice Clairay Wetcher claiming I am ignoring her emails. I mistakenly responded to two of their adverts on Craigslist that appeared to be post by the actual residents. I promptly and politely responded to both emails explaining I had no interest in working with a broker.

She continues to email me day and night saying she has yet to hear back from me after I promptly continue to tell her to leave me alone. I reached out to call her and received a voicemail recording for a different phone number stating nothing about the fact she is a broker. I went to the New York Habitat website and called them directly. I was forward to the "quality assurance" department where I was grilled with questions.

Apparently their system has more than one person with my first name in it, and they feel it is my responsibility to help them sort out their disorganized records. The woman pleaded with me since she does not have access to Beatrice's email and it is clear no one is reviewing emails that end up in their spam or junk folders. Just another example of unnecessary leaching by broker's in New York City's rental market targeting potential lease holders of low cost rental units.

You have no business harassing people or driving up the cost of entry lesser priced units. There are plenty of multi-million dollar units in this city available for purchase, please go focus on "helping" those people locate their new home and secure a mortgage and leave renters ALONE!

Unprofessional company. The agent was misleading, when I had questions concerning the apartment and my security deposit no one was available and I was being transferred from person to person for weeks or was told that I would get a call back and of course no one would call back. There is a mandatory monthy cleaning fee of 50.00, I was also charged 450.00 for the application fee when other companies are charging 100.00. I wouldn't reccomend this company to ANYONE.

I dealt with Beth Weiler while looking for a furnished apartment for a 1 month stay, and I found her to be exceptionally responsive, polite, informative and helpful. I will be contacting Beth again when we need something more permanent because I felt comfortable and reassured when dealing with her.

I was cut off while writing my most recent review but I think you all get the point - if you've read this in it's entirety and still decide to work with NY Habitat then you definitely cant say you weren't warned. On a side note - recently realized the squatters staying out in the living room are dealing drugs out of the apartment. I was woken up by someone repeatedly buzzing the doorbell - one of the squatters answers and then an argument ensued about showing up at the apartment.

I also want to state that when I signed the agreement to apartment share - it specifically stated that Waly(the scumbag primary tenant) would be the only other person living in the place. I contacted NY Habitat about this and. you guessed it! They did nothing and said nothing. There answer was "maybe you should give 30 days notice" WHICH I DID. I was supposed to be here for year but this place was so terrible that I gave notice after 4 months! NY Habitat doesn't screen their landlords or primary tenants!

They take some glossy pics - swindle you out of an "agent fee" and then tell you to fuck off after they place you in a hell hole. Also I want to tell you about the neighborhood. A few years ago when I was in college - Harlem was up And coming. You could see all the right people moving in and all the shit slowly being flushed out. Well that's done now - a lot of the progress made has reversed. Harlem still has some beautiful tree lined brownstone streets but it's mostly filthy trash everywhere prowled by crack head after crackhead.

But this street 132nd between Lenox and 5th has to be one of the worst. It is not safe. As soon as the sun goes down the drug dealers come out to service their strung out customers. Hey it's NYC and look I'm from LA - this isn't new to me. It's the obviousness of it - they feel no need to even try to hide it. especially on this block.

So if NYC is new to you and you're not from a city like LA - stay away from this place bc it's too much even for me. I really hope these reviews help the next person walk away from NY Habitat. If so - then going through this crap and dealing with this awful company was almost worth it!

After having worked with some rental agencies in Paris, where I was looking for an apartment, this one was an unpleasant surprise. It seemed like they have an answer service with one agent who keeps her phone off. We were looking to rent an apartment for one month in Paris. Somehow their agency fee was 40% of the total rental, and not the customary 5%.

When I mentioned that to her, she never realized how high her figure was and was surprised by the percentage. It was clear that she made that agency fee up. Then, you pay directly to the owner, including deposit, which was 100% of the rental, which she later got reduced to 50% of the total rental. What's the point of the agency if I have to pay directly to the owner? Seems like a high opportunity for scams.

So that they operate as a Finder rather than an Agent. And, payments must be made by travelers checks. I'm not even sure where you get those checks from these days, but then you are essentially shipping cash overseas to an unknown "owner." Then, this agent said these owners are reliable because she rented one particular apartment 53 times. She made that number up, again.

It is highly unlikely that this long stay apartment could have been rented so many times. These are monthly or annual rentals, not daily! Overall, I did not feel comfortable working with this so-called "agency."

I've just moved to US and Christophe from NYC Habitat really helped me finding a nice studio in Manhattan. After I moved there I just told him I don't like the neighbourhood(it was in Times Square so it was super crowded all the time and everything was super expensive in the area but the studio was pretty nice anyway), he found me another studio in the Upper West Side for a 0 dollar fee. So feel to contact him. He will help you.

My experience with this company was awesome! They very quickly and easily found the apartment for me, in a great area. The apartment is clean and cozy. They have a very flexible schedule and at any time of the day they answer my calls and requests.

I just wrapped up the process of signing a lease in Paris for my study abroad program next year and I am so thankful for New York Habitat. My agent, Jean-Philippe Blaise was absolutely wonderful! He was very quick to respond to any questions or concerns I had and helped me book a great studio apartment in Paris. The process was simple, quick, and took a lot of stress off of me as looking for an apartment in a foreign country can be a bit daunting.

There is an agency fee (reservation fee) so just be aware of that but this would go for any agency you use while booking an apartment or living place. Overall, I definitely recommend this company as I do not know how I would have found such a great place without them.

Before I found Nyhabitat and agent Christophe - it was a problem for me to move in Manhattan or Downtown Brooklyn because I am a foreigner - so most apts have lots of requirements, asking about credit score, proofs of income etc, but that's hard for me, cause I am new in US. But Christophe from NYhabitat was very helpful and adviced me a better variant among ones that I've chosen - I am satisfied.

And everything was easy. Without any problems. Short term lease/Long term lease - no problem. Even if decide to move to another place after my lease - I will definitely ask Christophe. Five stars without any doubt!

In NYC it's hard to find a short term lease that is fully furnished, NY habitat had multiple listings available throughout the city. Beth, at NY habitat helped us find a great location, close to work at a decent price. In regards to other reviews, NY Habitat are there to find you an apartment, not to facilitate issues between you and the landlord.

If there is an issue upon arrival, they will help you relocate. Craigslist and gypsy housing might seem tempting with low rents, but if it is too good to be true it usually is. Bottom line is they are worth their fee, cheaper then airbnb and legit.
